Warning about attempts
to steal payment card data

We are writing to warn you about attempts to steal payment card data that we have observed in connection with claims about the expiry of internet domains purchased through WebSupport. An alert about this sort of fraud has also been issued by Websupport themselves. The target usually receives an e-mail which claims that their domain is expiring and offers them a link to check it.

Clicking on the link starts a process with instructions to make a card payment:

Please be careful when providing payment card data and especially in connection with SMS messages containing registration codes for enrolling your payment card in the Google Pay or Apple Pay services. Please carefully check every SMS message containing a registration code and identify what the registration code is really authorising.

If you give your payment card data to an unauthorised person, they can use it to make payments from the payment account for which your payment card was issued up to your limit for internet payments and these transactions could be considered to have your authorisation. Your actions could also be considered a breach of security in payment card use under the relevant contract.
